Walgreens — Batavia, IL

A few years ago, the residents of Batavia, Illinois were treated to a gorgeous new Walgreens location! Working with architects at Camburas Theodore LTD, we provided a suite of attractive masonry for this anchor retail location in the heart of downtown. Located just steps from the Fox River, and nestled amongst scores of small businesses, the community was eager to see a pedestrian-friendly design that existed in harmony with the historic buildings nearby.

The choice of “Frontenac” stone veneer from Shouldice designer stone proved to be the perfect selection for the pharmacy’s corner façade— the warm buff & grey color palette complimented the 1920s structure next door, while coming in at price point pleasing to the developers. A matching stone knee wall separating the parking area from the street creates an approachable streetscape and invites passersby into the complex.

Classic “Mountain Red” utility brick from Interstate brick was used for the bulk of the new building, matching the chain’s aesthetic. Horizontal bands of light brown, variegated “Desert Sand” brick help minimize the massing of the architecture and match the rustic stone accents. The next time you find yourself in Chicago’s western suburbs, drop by and tell us what you think!
