Vacation Retreat — Stevensville, MI

Connecting a screened-in porch to the main area of your home in a way that feels seamless — yet keeps the elements from encroaching on your main living space — can present quite the design challenge. Thankfully, LaCantina pocket doors proved to be the perfect solution for this wooded vacation home! When the doors are open, they fully disappear into the wall, doubling the size of the cottage’s cozy living area (and allowing those seasonable breezes to drift from the covered porch all throughout the home).

In colder weather, the three-seasons room can be partitioned off from the main space in seconds with the help of this handsome, thermally-controlled door system. The owners also found that shutting the porch off from the rest of the home at night was pivotal for keeping mice and other pesky creatures out of the kitchen.

With the home perched atop a hill, about 300 feet above the dirt access road that winds through this secluded valley, our installers had to hand carry each portion of the door system up to the house one piece at a time. Well worth the effort, we think!
