Café Intermezzo — Nashville, TN

Any cake lover or coffee aficionado who’s spent time in Atlanta will be familiar with the inimitable Café Intermezzo. With old world charm inspired by the opulence of European salons in the Baroque period, this popular late night coffeehouse is known as much for its photogenic interior design as it is for its extensive menu of mouth-watering desserts.

In 2018, the owners decided to expand out-of-state for the first time. Seeking to replicate the indoor/outdoor fluidity of the original location for the new Nashville restaurant, ISG Inc, specified bifolding doors for one of the street-facing elevations. In nice weather, this 8-panel system we provided from La Cantina Doors collapses to one side, allowing diners in the salmon-hued parlor room to enjoy a breezy experience akin to dining on a covered porch.

With Tennessee winters averaging quite a bit colder than the eatery’s roots in balmy Georgia, Cafe Intermezzo, also benefits from the ability to shut these thermally-controlled panels up tight — a casual patron may not even realize the floor-to-ceiling windows they’re people-watching through have the ability to open!

We hope to someday see these small business owners open an outpost here in Chicago… but until then, we’ll enjoy visiting when we head south!
